Luggage that makes a difference. No child should carry their life in a bin bag.
MadLug, situated in Lurgan town centre, is a social enterprise founded by youth worker Dave Linton. After completing a fostering course in 2014, Dave was shocked to learn that many children in care carry all their belongings in a bin bag and that's when he came up with the idea for Madlug. He wanted to do something that would help children in care and make an impact on their lives. So Dave developed Madlug - ‘Make A Difference’ luggage.
Madlug has a 'one for one' approach - with every bag purchased, Madlug will give a new bag to a child in care because no child should carry their life in a bin bag. ‘Life goes inside’ is Madlug’s main motto. The bags for the children in care are not branded because Dave thought it was best to not stigmatise children with a brand. Madlug has contributed 1100 bags into Northern Ireland's children’s care system.
With the financial input from JWMT and mentoring from Brian Hunter (MPact), Madlug was able to expand its marketing budget. They now have professional videos for promotional use and advertising, as well as a new website and social media.
In the future Madlug plans to collaborate with the Vintage Satchel Company to design and launch a new range of Madlug satchels.
